Credit Card ApplicationsA credit card can be a useful tool for consumers. Credit cards can add convenience to managing finances and can help with making online purchases, over-the-phone transactions, hotel reservations, and many other dealings. Many people choose not to have a credit card for obvious reasons, yet for those who decide they would like to have a credit card there are some things that they should know. The first thing is, how do I get a credit card? This may seem like old news to the majority of people reading this, but there are some people who have no idea about how to get a credit card and how they work. The first step in opening up a credit card account is to fill out an application. Many credit card companies send out pre-screened offers, offering a credit card to the recipient. Before someone can take advantage of one of these offers, they must fill out an application. On the application, the applicant will be asked to provide personal information about themselves. They will be asked to give their social security number, their personal income, their outstanding debts, and their employment status. An applicant will have to give their address, phone number, and the address and phone number of the place where they are employed. Credit card companies use different mediums to promote their cards. In addition to pre-screened offers, people can go online to fill out applications, get applications in major retail stores, and from some banks. There are many different credit card companies from which to choose, how does someone know which one to use? It all depends upon the individual and their personal reason for wanting a credit card. If a person is getting a credit card primarily for gasoline purchases, they want to get a credit card that works with a petroleum company. Many of these cards offer higher incentives if you make purchases from the petroleum company that is featured on the card. If a person does a lot of flying, they may want to use a card that offers rewards in flying miles. There are also some cards that offer points that can be redeemed for rewards, and cards that offer cash back for purchases in general. In addition to considering the rewards that a credit card has to offer, other important things to consider when choosing a credit card are things such as, is there an annual fee, and if there is how much is it going to be? What is the annual percentage rate going to be? Is there a grace period for making payments? Besides considering these things, in choosing a credit card an applicant needs to read all the terms and conditions that are in effect with the card. Consumer should always exercise caution when using a credit card. A person should never charge more than they can pay off at the end of the month, consumers should use credit cards as a line of credit only in an emergency situation. |
